SUMMARY:Jane Austen Book-to-Fork Cooking Club
DESCRIPTION:Cider Tasting – Nitty’s Cider\, 3201 Folsom Blvd\, Sacramento\, Sunday\, June 25\, 12:30 pm. \nCider has been consumed for ages and during the Regency it was a mainstay for the poorer\, lower classes. There are recipes for cider in Hannah Glasse and Maria Rundell’s books. It was usually made by women\, but drunk considerably by men.  Jane and her family did partake in making other drinks like mead\, spruce beer\, and orange wine\, but no mention of cider. As a woman and as a higher class person\, we could guess that Jane Austen may not have had cider in her daily diet\, though she enjoyed her apple fill through apple tarts. Had Jane tasted the ciders at Nitty’s Cider\, she may have crossed the social divide and imbibed in cider. We will pay no heed to high or low class and as food and drink learners we are all class.  You can purchase by the pint or by the flight.  Bread\, cheese\, and other savories from the “Tea with the Bennets Anthology of Recipes” by Margaret Vaughn will be served. If you have a favorite food to eat with cider\, you may bring it.
