SUMMARY:Jane Austen's Sanditon Workshop/Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Jane Austen’s Sanditon\, A workshop/discussion presented by Dr. David Bell\, Professor Emeritus\, California State University\, Sacramento\, English Department. \nIn the final months of her life Jane Austen began a seventh novel\, abandoning it after having written about 24\,000 words.  This fragment is now the basis of an eight-part PBS mini-series with a script by Andrew Davies.  Dr. Bell is concerned that in the excitement of seeing a new Austen adaptation\, it could be easy to lose touch with the original.  His purpose is to return our attention to what Austen actually wrote.  As her last piece of fiction\, “Sanditon” offers  a unique opportunity to look back on her journey as a novelist and to speculate on where she might have headed had she lived longer.  This will be a workshop/discussion rather than a formal lecture.  Dr. Bell will count on everyone present to have recently read (or reread) Austen’s richly rewarding fragment.  This program is free and open to the public.  Refreshments will be served; feel free to bring snacks to share. \nThis is a free event.

SUMMARY:Jane Austen Birthday Tea
DESCRIPTION:The program will include “George III: Sovereign of a Lifetime” From Jane Austen’s birth in 1775 until her death in 1817\, she knew only one sovereign: George III\, who was king from 1760 to 1820. He ruled during times of world-changing events: the Seven Years War\, the American Revolution\, the Industrial Revolution\, and the Napoleonic wars. Despite that\, most Americans only know him for two things: what was said about him in the Declaration of Independence and the fact that he went mad. James Nagle will explain the man\, his impact\, and his tragic end. \n\n\n\nLocal costumer and owner of Etsy store\, Thither\, Anna Morton will present on what Jane Austen might have worn upon visiting Carlton House\, the Prince Regent’s London residence to visit his Library on November 13\, 1815. Expect to see Regency fashions on live models! \n\n\n\nWe will also hear “Jane and Kate—Austen’s Royal Relation”\, partake in a basket drawing \, a tribute and camaraderie. \n\n\n\nTea is served by Sacramento tea purveyors\, The Novel Tea. 3-tiers of delicious delights and a custom–blended tea honoring the glorious\, Jane Austen. \n\n\n\nPlease feel free to come in Georgian or Regency-style apparel to add to the splendor and grandeur of the day. Arrive early to check-in and find a seat at a table beautifully set by member hosts. \n\n\n\nPayment Options\n\n\n\nPreferred payment method\, return form at the bottom with check to avoid processing fee: \n\n\n\nhttps://jasnasac.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/2020-Tea-Registration-Form.pdf \n\n\n\nOnline payment\, extra $2.00 processing fee: \n\n\n\nhttps://jasnasacregion.ticketspice.com/a-royal-tea-celebrating-jane-austen
