4. What motivates Mr. Hale’s departure from the Anglican clergy? Are the actual grounds for his
reservations given? Is it a good reason? Is Mr. Hale’s decision presented favorably? Since Gaskell was a
Unitarian, would she have naturally sympathized with the choice to dissent?
