Matthew Sheldon, Executive Director of Museum Operations of the National Museum of the Royal Navy, will talk about the depiction of the Royal Navy within political and social satire of the Regency period and in particular what it shows of the Navy’s impact on Regency society. There are strong links here with Jane Austen as a satirist herself, with her own life e.g. the naval brothers, and her works Mansfield Park and Persuasion.
